Microsoft has made this leap year a memorable one. From the masses to the developers everyone got something to be excited about. First up, they eclipsed the entire Mobile World Congress announcements with the consumer preview of Windows 8. With over 100,000 new features, the newest operating system from Redmond is loaded to the hilt with amazing features.

Developing apps for Windows has always been a profitable venture for developers. With the new Metro style, for the first time ever, Windows developers have a chance to one up Mac apps in the eye candy quotient. Thanks to the new Visual Studio 11 beta, a new version of the .NET framework and a bunch of templates and tools, coding for Windows 8 is gonna be a whole lot easier.

After the break, let us check out the major attractions from a bird’s eye view. Read on!

Last week, Microsoft grabbed a lion’s share of the news cycle. The drama surrounding the prospective Office app for iPad and a tongue in the cheek ad campaign against Google were the two main reasons. Even after a couple of days of claims, accusations and denials, no one is sure if an Office iPad app is in the works or not.

Google called IE privacy policies non operational, expiration dates for Windows Vista and 7 were pushed back, massive Skydrive upgrades are about to come, Visual Studio beta launch date was announced, Hotmail for Android clocked record downloads and a bunch of Microsoft apps and services are gonna be rebranded and more.

Read on for some of this week’s best Windows app news and updates.

As the resident gamer on the Envato network, I tend to play a lot of games. Not just in number but also in time spent.

For example, my Steam profile will show that I’ve spent over 1850 hours in just Team Fortress 2 over the past few years! Yes, I know it’s a lot but before you start judging, keep in mind that this is over four and a half years.

Today, I’d like to know how much time you’ve spent on your favorite game. I know the answer is going to be skewed towards online FPSs and MMORPGs but I’d still like to see how much everyone else is playing. I personally know a guy who spent about 400 hours on Skyrim so I’m very prepared for surprises!
