Screen capturing is not something that every computer user needs to do, but for others it is absolutely essential. Writing about software for AppStorm means that it’s something I need to do on a daily basis, and there are a multitude of apps available for anyone in my position.

Windows’ Sniping Tool is available to users of Windows 7 and 8, but it is very basic and I for one have found that the commercial program Snagit is amazingly versatile. But Greenshot is a free alternative which just goes to show there is no need to spend money on a screen capture tool.

Looking for an easy way to control two or more computers with a single mouse and keyboard? A little while ago we looked at look at Multiplicity which enables you to do just this, but Microsoft’s Mouse Without Borders adds handy extra options.

The app is free of charge and can be used to control up to four computers that are on the same network with a single set of peripherals. But the clincher? There’s also a shared clipboard so you can copy and paste text and files between machines.

How many file synchronization services exist these days? If you find that you are working with more than one computer on a frequent basis using a service such as Google Docs or Dropbox saves you the hassle of having to manually transfer the documents you need as it can all be taken care of for you.

The problem with the vast majority of tools that can be used to synchronize files is that they are based on cloud storage and there are limits on the amount of space you have available to you free of charge. Anyone who owns an iPhone, iPad or iPod will have battled with iTunes. It is a piece of software that is unlikely to feature in many people’s top ten but it’s something that pretty much goes hand in hand with owning an iOS device.
