Programs that start automatically with Windows can be useful – it saves you from having to manually launch apps you want to use straight away such as a chat client, for example – but there can also be a darker side.

Install a large number of apps on your computer and the number of startup programs can reach a level that means performance starts to be compromised. What’s the most frustrating thing about your computer? I’d be willing to bet that it’s how long it can take to start up. It has gotten better with every new version and given the number of legacy hardware and software it supports, it’s no mean feat to make the operating system so user friendly. Yes, there are some shortfalls when it comes security and maintenance.
