If you’d asked us what the best antivirus product on the market was we’d tell you hands down that you should use Microsoft Security Essentials. It’s the most un-intrusive, lightweight and simple product available that doesn’t prompt you to upgrade to a paid version since it’s built by Microsoft.
Alas, it looks like Microsoft has given up on the product. In a recent interview given by Holly Stewart, the senior program manager of the Microsoft Malware Protection Center the company has downplayed the importance of the product and recommends you use something else too.
Security is something that everyone should be concerned about. We don’t really want our financial or personal information out in the bad, bad world, do we?
To that effect, Windows ships with inbuilt security software as well as the option to download the free, and excellent, Microsoft Security Essentials. A lot of users I know eschew from these and tend to with other dedicated security software — antivirus, antimalware and firewalls amongst many others.
Personally, I really love MSE but seeing as I already have a pseudo-lifetime license for the excellent AVG security suite, I’m just going with it.
What about you? Are you content with what you have or do you use dedicated, third party security software? If so, which suite are you using? I want to hear about your experiences here.
So vote away and as always, we’d love to hear your thoughts – simply post a comment below!
Finding a pain-free antivirus client is something most only dream of: most of the time, it almost always involves trying out countless different applications one after the other, paying for something you don’t want to pay for, or downloading software only to find out that it hogs system resources and slows your entire system down to a unbearable crawl.
Well, look no longer; Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is an answer to your problems. It’s the best virus protection out there. Why? Let’s find out.
