Read on to find out!

Things to Bear in Mind

Mozy is a fully developed application which has been available for a while, providing users with a helpful layout. However, Cubby is still in the Beta testing phase, meaning it’s definitely not at its fullest potential yet.

Cost of the Home Version per month

So in turn, this means that Cubby is a free app at the minute, although you do need to apply for testing. (Only adding a limited number of users every day.) So you may need to wait a while before you are accepted. Mozy, in comparison comes in three different price bands.

  • Home-£4.99
  • Business- Ranges in price depending on specifications
  • Enterprise- Needs a private quote

Each of these possesses different facilities suited towards your certain needs. I will be looking at the “Home Version” of Mozy during this article.

The key concepts of both are vaguely different though:

Cubby, the name coming from the box you used to store items in at school, is a cloud service which allows you to create folders online, containing anything from image to text files. Making easy folders and keeping them safe is Cubby’s main attraction. Cubby is also integrated onto: Mac, Apple App Store and Android. Making it easier to access your private files.

The focus of Mozy is “Online Backup Solution and Service”. With automatic backups, file encryption and 24/7 technical support, your personal files will always be in safe hands. Mozy is a simple and clever storage system which allows you to quickly organise your data.

User Interface

Mozy user interface, in a sentence, is bland but simple. It’s suited primarily towards its primary function keeping your specific files backed up. Giving you loads of helpful guidance, it’s not a hard task to start backing up your files and data.

The opening screen to Mozy

Cubby, in contrast, is definitely more aesthetically pleasing from the onset. With bright colours and integrated options, Cubby allows you to pleasantly store your files. It’s a simple and pretty application. However, Mozy offers much more customization features to make the experience easier for the user to understand.

In this section, it’s hard to pick a winner. While Cubby offers a more appealing layout, Mozy gives you better options to provide a quicker service. Therefore, for user interface I will tie the two.

Winner: Tie

Ease of use

The options for easy backup

When you install Mozy, you instantly have the chance to back up as much data as you like. You can choose what you would like to backup and it’s a pretty self-explanatory feature which is uncomplicated. You have options throughout the app to schedule when your backups occur, these remove the ability of having to manually set them away.

Cubby's easy to use layout

Your first backup will take considerably longer than normal. This is not a true representation of normal behavior, as future backups will finish much faster.

Cubby is very easy to use. By right clicking on any folder in your documents and selecting “Create Cubby”, the file is uploaded to the cloud. Viewing it on a range of different devices and platforms, as well as being able to share with friends (By sending them the URL) is an effortless job. Cubby is a secure cloud system which is very versatile to use!

Overall, Cubby wins this section!

Winner: Cubby

Extra Features

Both applications possess unique features which allow them to make your everyday life more adaptable. In this section, I will summarize the ones which I feel should be known!

Cubby:

  • Allows you to quickly share files to anyone with the touch of a button
  • Easy syncing features between devices through “cubby.com” is an option which is necessary for anyone.
  • All files in the same main folder, meaning it’s hard to misplace items.

The simple sharing feature available on Cubby

Mozy:

  • Mozy is automatic, so you always have the most recent copy of your work on the system.
  • New sync features in “Mozy Stash”, so you can share your files across multiple computers.
  • Intense protection to ensure your data is never at risk.

I feel Cubby offers the most effectual features to help me store my data. So Cubby wins again!

Winner: Cubby

Winner: Cubby

Overall, I’m going with Cubby as the victor of this battle. Cubby provides excellent sync and sharing features so I can have my data wherever I go. Sharing files with people is an important aspect which allows me to effectively navigate my files.

However, these are both great applications. Though Cubby has won, that is only for home and individual use. For big companies and enterprises, Mozy is superior, with extensive data protection and an unlimited amount of space. It surpasses the basic features of Cubby.

A final point to add is that Cubby is still in the beta testing phase, still not at its full capacity: a sign of good things to come!

So that’s our battle for today. Let us know what you think in the comments below and thank you so much for reading!
