As Windows 8.1 is set to roll out around the world, Facebook has released their very first app for the new OS marking the first time they have supported it with a native application.
The update quietly appeared late today in the Windows Store as available to download for free and it’s a great alternative to the browser experience for those on touch enabled devices. It’s fully featured and closely replicates the website’s functionality with chat functionality and notifications built right in.
It even supports the Windows 8 share charm so you’re able to easily share things to Facebook from other applications as well as the new responsive snapping view that lets you choose what width you want it to be on your screen. Overall, a very welcome addition from one of the most anticipated apps.
The bad news is that Facebook’s app is exclusive to Windows 8.1 and cannot be installed on Windows 8 at all. If you attempt to install it on Windows 8 an error saying “Sorry, this app can’t be installed because your PC doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements” will stop you. All the more reason to update to Windows 8.1 today!
To download the app, either visit the link here (it may not work depending on your location) or check the “new” area in the Windows Store.
