Apple has brought us innovations beyond believe, enriching our everyday lives with their products and giving superb service. Their technology amazes, inspires and excites people all over the world. However, there’s still a majority of us who admire Apple, but are dedicated Windows users.
One of Apple’s unique features is their amazing interface with beautiful graphics. This has caused developers to take the best parts and transfer them over to Windows. 3RVX is a simple service which gives you volume display of Mac OS X on your Windows desktop. Read on to find out whether its worth your time!
A project lead by Matthew Malensek, 3RVX is an app which probably isn’t going to improve your life greatly. Basically, it’s a service which is very uncomplicated and allows you to instantly change your volume using hotkeys. Allowing you to display the volume bar from Mac is the main concept here, as well as giving you a range of different customization options.
By setting up your hot keys, two simple movements can increase, decrease or even mute your music. Needless to say, thus us much easier than the average way to change your volume – being extremely versatile and quick! Personally, this is the most appealing feature. While playing games or seriously writing along to music, I can fluidly control everything I want with a simple movement – saving me time and effort.
This is why I love Windows so much. You can always find useful utilities which you wouldn’t find anywhere else, making your everyday life more fun!
Installation of this application is easy and quick. By following this link, you instantly have use of the application. After following and selecting your chosen language, you’re done and ready to go!
The Mac OS skin isn’t the only one at your disposal. One of 3RVX’s customisation options is the ability to pick and choose between your preferred interface. These will appear when you use your hot keys to change the volume.
These are the skins available!
Default (Mac OS)
The white layout which is commonly used on the Mac OS system and I must admit it’s basic, clean and professional.
A volume display which when changed causes blocks to disappear from each side equally, decreasing the volume until all blocks are gone and the opposite when increasing.
Ignition is a skin which has a technological feel and looks futuristic. The controller has a black base colour and circulating neon blue lights.
With a volume controller in the corner and big blocks to display the volume change, ishom looks good and easy to view.
Designed by Matthew, the lead developer, this is a simple and pixel based controller interface.
Small Glass is one of my favourites. Not too futuristic and creates a nice balance between simple and complicated.
Another of my favourites, Vista808 is a basic design which shows an exact number value of your sound level (giving me more control than the others.) It’s also colourful, and who doesn’t need a bit of colour in their life?
As well as the ability to set up hot keys to alter volume you can also set up the keys to eject drives, and the app will notify you when they’re ejected. Keep in mind that this only works on XP and Vista – which is disappointing for some.
As 3RVX is run by a small team, they are always up for helping and providing a better service. Personally, I experienced problems with the app at first, not being able to setup the keys, for instance. After passing an email over to the developer, I was quickly assisted with a returning email within two hours. This was great as the majority of app developers aren’t fully dedicated to their project, this one definitely is. I expect great things to come in the future!
All in all, 3RVX is a simply designed app which has been built by a small range of developers. This service allows you to give your Windows PC an Apple feel, as well as making your computing experience easier and more functional.
I was pretty reserved when I first saw the app. My first thought was “What’s the point?” However, as I indulged myself into the hardware by playing around, I quickly grasped the purpose and the different options available. The app became second nature to me and won’t be leaving my computer soon!
