A good game should be fun to play…a great game should immerse you into this virtual world that brings out the inner child in you, Asphalt 7 Heat does exactly that and so much more. Gameloft has managed to create a masterpiece, and what’s even better is that it’s only $0.99.
Asphalt 7 Heat is a fast-paced simulation racer, with a first-class lineup of 60 prestigious real-world cars – from the Tesla Roadster to a Bugatti Veyron, 15 tracks in cities across the world and stunning graphics that would put any other mobile game to shame. As if that was not enough, it has real-time mutliplayer, both local and online.
As soon as you launch the game one thing is clear, Gameloft went all out on this one. Starting from the splash screen, the attention to detail is over the top and has you rearing to go.
The races take you all over the world – from the busy glowing streets of Tokyo to the elegant and historic streets of Paris, from the concrete jungle that is New York, to the cold and icy Alps. All the tracks and the surrounding environment are modelled in stunning beauty thereby immersing you even more into the game.
Let’s not forget about the cars. Asphalt 7 Heat features a proper line-up of 60 cars. The fun part is that the game uses registered brands, this allows it to use real-life cars from some of the most prestigious manufacturers around. You want to use the new Tesla Roadster…you can, you want to take the Pagani Huayra for a spin…well they’ve got that covered too.
Asphalt 7 is not just all eye candy, its gameplay will keep you tilting your phone for minutes and on end. The game offers you great tracks with lots of shortcuts and long corners for the perfect drifts. When you launch the game, you can choose between Career, Quick-play or Multiplayer.
The Career mode is a lengthy, indulging campaign with different modes including Point to Point, Knockdowns, Time Trails, Drift Challenges etc. There are several cups which you unlock as you gain more stars. Each cup has 4 event to play through. Basically, the more you race, the more points you get. These points allow you to level up and unlock more cars.
Quick Play mode is for when you have a minute or two to spare and you want to get your racing fix. You easily choose your race type – normal race, drift, elimination. beat ’em all, paint job or king of the hill.If you just have a minute or two and you want a quick race, choose Spin and the game will randomly chose a race, location and tier.
Multiplayer mode is what really sets the game apart. You can literally count the number of mobile phone games with proper real-time multiplayer. In Multiplayer mode, you can race with your friends locally over a bluetooth or WiFi connection or you can connect with other gamers internationally via the internet.
As you go along you unlock Goals, which when completed, give you stars and cash rewards. There are also Achievements which earn you G points for your XBox Live account.
For the non-competitive ones, you could always go the easy way and pony up a couple of dollars for upgrades instead of earning them through races, but seriously, where’s the fun in that!
When it comes to playing races on mobile phones, everyone has their own control settings that work for them, Luckily, Asphalt 7 Heat give you a choice of four options to suit your needs:
Control A: Drive your car using the accelerometer with auto-acceleration on
Control B: Drive your car using the accelerometer with manual acceleration
Control C: Drive you car with an on-screen wheel with auto-acceleration on
Control D: Tap anywhere on the left half of your screen to go left and vice versa with auto-acceleration on. This is my preferred method.
If you still haven’t played this game, stop whatever you’re doing, go to the Windows Phone Store and spend that $0.99. I can gladly say that that is the best one dollar I’ve ever spent. Seriously though, Asphalt 7 Heat is a well-built game, with gameplay that will keep you immersed and graphics that will leave you yearning for more.
